2014 is upon us and it's in full swing. As companies gear up for the new year and get their marketing budgets in order, everyone is asking themselves the same questions: "What will the new year bring for our business?", "How do we go about capitalizing on the largest percentage of our market?", "What new trends will emerge this year in the ever changing landscape of the web and social media?". Well, social media expert, Stephanie Frasco shares the answers to some of these questions in her article, 11 Web Marketing and Social Media Trends That Will Shape 2014.
So what WILL happen in 2014? According to Frasco, the way businesses market will need to become more social. It will need to become more human. We've become a society that relies on sharing information across multiple channels and this NEEDS TO MATTER for marketing. As Frasco points out, "Image centric sites will continue to rise", "Video consumption will increase", "Sharing will be more important than ever" and "Marketing will be about adding value". These are the most interesting points that she makes they speak to the evolving nature of our culture. We as consumers and customers want content. We want to see things, we want to watch things, we want to feel like we're a part of things and we want to be able to tell other people about those things. If you're a company that has a marketing plan, this needs to be on the forefront of your mind.
You might mull this over and ask yourself, "Where do I start?" As an integrated video marketing company, we would suggest starting with video. ;)
Video is crucial for delivering the right message to the right person because video carries emotion unlike any other marketing medium. Copy is important, services and offering and products and capabilities are important, photos are important; but only video can make a true connection with your audience. Video allows you to deliver relevant, emotion filled, impactful content. To make the argument for video simpler; that's what everyone is looking at now. Basically, people expect to see video content everywhere they go and if you don't have it, you're missing an opportunity to connect with those people. In Sam Gutelle's article, By 2015, 90% Of Web Video Consumption Will Come From 18-34 Demographic, he cites an infographic about online video: "...an 800% increase in online video consumption over the past six years, a 55% majority of video news viewers among Internet users, and a yearly spend of $4.14 billion from the online video advertising industry in 2013." Video is just too big of a deal to ignore.
Stephanie Frasco does everyone a service by shining a light on the "impossible to keep up with" online world and it's plans to continue to shake things up in 2014. There's a whole lot to think about and even more to do and by the time you think about it and do it, it will be changing again. The thing that won't change is the way our culture is moving. We desire human connection, valuable content and the ability to share. Video can achieve these things. Let us show you.
